Born on Christmas day, in 1920, to later become a gift to the world--especially the beauty world. Christina Mae Thomas Jenkins, is the inventor of the weave installation process. Whew, yes, that was a mouth-full. Graduated from Leland College (Baton Rouge), with a Bachelor in the studies of science (1943), she began working for a wig making company. In 1949, while working for the wig and hair piece manufacturer, she was inspired to research how to secure wigs. This research led her to experimenting, as a beautician, and later to invent the method of weave installation, which is still used around the world. Little did she know, from Louisiana, she will teach her method internationally. Married to famous jazz pianist Duke Jenkins in Cleveland Ohio. Two years later in 1951, Christina received a patent for her hair weaving method, under the name  Hair Weeveâ–¬ hint on how we may have gotten the name for this style of hair. Mrs. Jenkins, owned and operated her business HairWeeve Penthouse Salon, until 1993, and died ten years later, in 2003, at the age of 82. Her daughter Shelia Jenkins-Cochran is the only known child she has.
